Jakarta - The Indonesian Cricket National Team achieved success at the SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia, contributing 1 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal. Head Coach of Cricket Indonesia, Sri Lankan native Nuwan Shiroman, explained one key to the team's success.
The sport of cricket played a role in winning medals, and the Chairman of the Central Board of the Indonesian Cricket Association (PP PCI), Abhiram S. Yadav, was always present on the sidelines of the field despite the extremely hot weather to support and motivate the players.
Nuwan Shiroman expressed his joy at Abhiram's presence. The chairman was said to never enjoy himself during the time in Cambodia, always staying with the athletes.
"Chairman Abhiram never goes sightseeing during his time in Cambodia, both on the field and at the hotel; he is always with the athletes. Eating together, going to the gym together. Even before the athletes get ready to board the bus to the field, the Chairman is always the first person to arrive before anyone else. The average departure time to the field is at 5:30 in the morning, and we return at 6 in the evening," said Nuwan Shiroman in his press statement.
The emotional peak was seen when the Deputy Treasurer of the National Olympic Council (NOC) Indonesia, Aang Sunadji, and Deputy CdM Emir Astri Bhaskoro gave Abhiram the opportunity to present the first gold medal in the history of Cricket to the Women's Team in the Sixes format on May 10, 2023.
"Yes, every time we make a visit, Mr. Abhiram is always present in the scorching field. His togetherness with the athletes makes him deserving to present the gold medal to the Indonesian Women's Cricket Team," said Deputy CdM, Emir Astri.
Abhiram confirmed the incident. All of this was done out of love for Indonesian Cricket and his desire to play the Indonesian Raya anthem at the biennial multi-event of Southeast Asian nations.
"It is very touching; we have all fought hard and finally brought a gold medal to Indonesia. Today is a historic moment with the playing of the Indonesian Raya anthem in the Cricket arena at the SEA Games. Thank you for the support of the entire Indonesian people, NOC Indonesia, and the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Mr. Dito," explained Abhiram.
