Jakarta (ANTARA) – Ni Made Putri Suwandewi has made history as the first Indonesian athlete to debut in Australia’s professional cricket league, joining the Perth Scorchers for the 2024–2025 season.
“Scorchers is a very successful club, and I can’t wait to work with the team and coaches this season,” said Suwandewi in a written statement from Jakarta on Saturday.
Suwandewi’s achievement is the result of intensive training and development by the Indonesian Cricket Association (PP PCI). Through structured training programs and tiered competitions, Suwandewi has grown into a versatile player with international-caliber skills.
PP PCI’s consistent efforts in nurturing women athletes have paved the way for many young players, including Suwandewi, to achieve their dreams and excel on the global stage.
Suwandewi’s impressive record in 42 T20 International matches includes taking 49 wickets at an average of 8.18 per wicket and an economy rate of 2.97 per over.
She expressed hope that this opportunity would not only enrich her experience but also bring pride to Indonesia and inspire young athletes to follow in her footsteps.
Perth Scorchers’ head coach Becky Grundy praised Suwandewi’s work ethic and dedication, noting that they align perfectly with the team’s values.
Grundy is optimistic that Suwandewi will make a significant contribution to the Scorchers and further hone her skills in world-class competition.
