Garuda Gentlemen, triumphed over the Dispora India team
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian cricket team, Garuda Gentlemen, triumphed over the Dispora India team in the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and India, at the Spice and Sand Cup 2024 held at the Udayana Cricket Ground in Bali on Saturday (November 30).
The Chairman of the Indonesian Cricket Association (PP PCI), Abhiram Singh Yadav, hopes that the Spice and Sand Cup 2024 will serve as a platform to strengthen relations between the citizens of both countries.
“Sports diplomacy brings a new dimension to people-to-people relations between India and Indonesia. Cricket, as one of the most popular sports in India, is now a means to enhance the social, cultural, and sports ties between these two great nations,” said Abhiram Singh Yadav in an official statement on Sunday.
Abhiram plans to make this tournament an annual event, especially to promote cricket and strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries.
“With this spirit, sports prove itself as a universal language that unites differences and inspires future generations to continue strengthening inter-country relations,” explained Abhiram.
The Consul General of India for Bali, Shashank Vikram, emphasized the significance of the Spice and Sand Cup as a symbol of innovative cultural diplomacy.
“The inaugural Spice and Sand Cup will become an annual event that brings together the people of India and Indonesia through the sport of cricket. Cricket is not just a sport, but a game that teaches values such as teamwork, friendship, and stability,” said Shashank Vikram.
In this first-ever tournament, which is designed to become an annual tradition, the Garuda Gentlemen team from Indonesia defeated the Diaspora India team by 41 runs.
In this match, Garuda Gentlemen batted first, posting a score of 99 for 3 wickets in 10 overs, demonstrating their dominance from the outset.
Julang Dzulfikar stood out in the match, delivering an outstanding performance with a score of 53 runs. His leadership on the field, supported by solid play from Rian Heo and other teammates, put Garuda Gentlemen in a commanding position.
When it was the Diaspora India team’s turn to chase the target, the pressure from the Indonesian bowlers made it difficult for them to build momentum. As a result, they could only manage 58 runs, losing seven wickets in 10 overs.
The brilliant performance of Indonesia's bowlers, especially I Ketut Edi Guna, was key to the team’s victory. With four crucial wickets, Ketut Edi not only helped his team secure the win but also solidified his position as the top bowler in the standings with 118 points.
On the other hand, Julang Dzulfikar, who scored the highest in the match, ranked second with 85 points, making him one of the best players in the game.
